the internet got fast. and flat.
same templates. same stock smiles. same three gradients from the same three tools. somewhere along the way, beauty became the first thing a small brand cuts from the budget.
we think that’s backwards.
beauty is how a brand feels before it says a word. deep, sensual, almost tactile — a visual world you want to stay in.
that world used to cost €15k and three months with a studio. ether compresses it into an evening.
we're on a mission to make the internet beautiful. one small brand at a time.
What Ether is
Ether generates visual universes. You describe a mood — three words, or five — and it returns a complete visual world: a palette with real roles, type pairings that belong together, gradients, textures, and photography graded in one art direction. Everything born from the same feeling.
One subscription across five instruments
- Palette
- Seven colors with jobs: background, text, accent, support. Weighted, ordered, ready to use.
- Type
- Pairings from a hand-tagged catalog of licensed families, chosen by the universe’s temperature.
- Gradients
- Drawn from your palette by the same engine that powers our studio. Eight fields, five color spaces, full control when you want it.
- Textures
- Film grain, riso, halftone, paper. Tuned to the mood, exported with real alpha.
- Photography
- Generated, then passed through your universe’s own color ramp. The image is new; the light belongs to you.
How it works
"Quiet luxury, sand, linen" is enough. A reference image works too.
From words to a full system on one page, in under two minutes.
Lock the palette, reroll the photography. Lock the type, push the gradients further. Locked elements never move. Then export: brand sheet, CSS tokens, full-resolution PNG.
Who it's for
Brands that want to feel considered and don't have a designer on payroll. Founders who know what taste is and can't buy three months of studio time. And designers — as a starting point that's already coherent instead of a blank page.
The standalone tools — gradient studio, type specimen, photo grader, palette extractor, textures — stay free, without an account. Their exports are CC0. Read the licence.
What we believe
Generated doesn't have to mean generic. Every model we use runs through our own grading engine, and every collection we ship passes through human curation. The machine produces. Taste decides.
Why I built this
Ether started as a gradient generator I made for myself.
I run a brand direction bureau in Paris. Every project begins the same way — searching for a visual world that holds together. A palette that agrees with the typography. Photography that lives in the same light as the textures. It takes weeks, and it's the part most brands can't afford.
At some point the gradient tool grew a palette. Then type. Then photographs. And I realized I wasn't building a tool anymore — I was building the thing I'd been assembling by hand for every client.
